Top Chess Masters to Compete in National Team Championship

Vietnam's National Chess Championship is set to showcase a high level of competition with the participation of numerous strong players, including Grandmaster Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son. The tournament, held in 2026, aims to select the national chess team for the 2026-2027 period.

Fans can expect to see a roster of formidable talent, from established Grandmasters like Tran Tuan Minh, Dao Thien Hai, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Luong Phuong Hanh, and Vo Thi Kim Phung, to rising young stars such as Bang Gia Huy and Dau Khuong Duy. The event is organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh Province in collaboration with the Vietnam Chess Federation.

The championship will feature both Chess and ASEAN Chess disciplines across team categories for men, women, and mixed doubles. Competitors will engage in all four time controls: standard, rapid, blitz, and rapid blitz. A significant aspect of the tournament is that all results will be submitted to the World Chess Federation (FIDE) for international Elo rating calculations.

Furthermore, the top 32 players will earn direct qualification for the 2027 National Championship. Adding a modern touch, the event includes an interactive smart chessboard experience sponsored by KingViet, allowing participants and fans to explore the integration of technology in chess learning and play. The tournament runs until June 21.
