Torino takes over Europride 2027, faces challenge of raising 1 million euros

Torino has officially accepted the responsibility of hosting Europride in 2027, a significant international LGBTQ+ event. The city's organizing committee faces the considerable challenge of raising a 1 million euro budget to bring the celebration to life. They plan to begin approaching local businesses for sponsorship in September.

We need financial partners who will help us do what we have planned. The goal is to create a major international and national event. All of Europe's eyes will be on us; this is an important opportunity for Torino and Piedmont.

The goal is to draw more than 250,000 people from around the globe to Torino. To achieve this, a compelling program of cultural events, performances, and social gatherings is being developed. The city has already committed 150,000 euros, and regional authorities and banking foundations are considering their contributions. However, securing corporate sponsors is seen as crucial to reaching the necessary funds.

Alessandro Battaglia, president of the organizing committee, emphasized the event's importance for Torino and the Piedmont region, stating that "all of Europe's eyes will be on us." He highlighted the chosen slogan, "Together we can," reflecting a message of unity and collective strength. This contrasts with Amsterdam's "Unity" theme and Barcelona's bid for WorldPride 2030+ centered on solidarity.

Battaglia and co-coordinator Chiara Tarantello pointed out the disparity in LGBTQ+ rights, noting that while Amsterdam celebrated 25 years of equal marriage, Italy waited 40 years for civil unions. They expressed concern that "Europe of rights is in danger" amid a grim global human rights situation.
