Tornado Strikes Southern Brazil, Injuring Seven

A powerful EF-1 tornado tore through the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, leaving at least seven people injured and causing widespread damage. The twister struck the municipalities of Giruá, Sete de Setembro, and Senador Salgado Filho, with videos circulating on social media capturing its destructive path.

In Giruá, one of the hardest-hit areas, four people were injured and numerous homes suffered severe damage. Fallen trees, livestock losses, and light hail were also reported. Communities like Rincão dos Coimbras and Rincão dos Mellos were among the most affected.

Emergency services, including firefighters, medical personnel, and civil defense teams, were mobilized to assist those impacted. Heavy machinery was deployed to clear roads and restore access to affected areas. In Sete de Setembro, three more individuals required hospitalization, and two homes were completely destroyed.

Civil Defense officials explained the tornado was associated with a supercell, an intense storm capable of generating such phenomena. They noted that an alert for severe weather had been issued hours prior, warning of potential heavy rainfall and strong winds across several regions of the state.
