Torrential rains wreak havoc in Moldova. Vaslui Police HQ and Focșani Hospital flooded. Firefighters evacuate water in many other counties

Torrential rains have battered the Moldova region of Romania, triggering significant flooding and prompting dozens of interventions by emergency services. In Vaslui county, firefighters worked to pump water out of flooded areas, including the Vaslui Municipal Police headquarters and several homes in Ghermănești, Gândești, and Bârlălești. Authorities urged citizens to avoid affected zones and to call 112 in case of emergencies.

The Vrancea county also experienced severe impacts, with firefighters responding to incidents in Focșani. Water was evacuated from the basement of the County Emergency Hospital, a business premises, and a parking lot. Inundations also affected homes, courtyards, and basements in various locations. A person with disabilities was evacuated from the Vâlcele passage area in Focșani, and approximately 25 households in the Urechești commune are dealing with flood damage. Emergency crews also cleared a fallen tree from a street in Focșani.

Further north, in Suceava county, heavy rainfall caused mudslides on mountain slopes along the DN 17 Vama - Molid and DN 17A Paltinu roads, requiring intervention from the National Road Section Câmpulung Moldovenesc to clear the carriageway. Buzău county also reported flooded households, with firefighters working to address the situation. The exceptional precipitation, with some areas receiving over 50 l/mp in a single day after nearly 100 l/mp two days prior, overwhelmed the local infrastructure, particularly in Ilfov county, where streets transformed into temporary rivers due to the inadequate drainage system.
