Tour de France Leader Jonas Vingegaard Crashes Out with Broken Collarbone

Jonas Vingegaard's Tour de France campaign ended abruptly on Sunday after a crash on the 15th stage resulted in a broken collarbone. The Visma team confirmed the injury in a press statement, adding that Vingegaard has been recommended for surgery, which is expected to take place in the coming days.

The Danish rider sustained multiple bruises in addition to the fractured collarbone. The incident occurred with approximately 20 kilometers remaining in the stage, shortly after navigating a roundabout. Vingegaard was seen clutching his shoulder area, specifically around the collarbone, and was unable to remount his bicycle. He was subsequently transported from the scene in an ambulance, visibly in considerable pain.

Images circulating shortly after the crash showed Vingegaard entering the Tour de France's X-ray bus, where the extent of his injuries was determined. He was later taken back to the team bus before departing the area in a team car, declining to speak with journalists and fans.

Prior to his withdrawal, Vingegaard held second place in the general classification. This marks his first-ever exit from the world's most prestigious cycling race, having previously secured two overall victories and three second-place finishes in the last five years.
