Trabzonspor enters race for Mohamed Salah after Beşiktaş deal collapses

Turkish Süper Lig club Trabzonspor has reportedly joined the pursuit of Egyptian football icon Mohamed Salah, following the breakdown of his anticipated transfer to rivals Beşiktaş. According to Turkish media, Trabzonspor representatives have initiated contact with Salah's agent, signaling serious interest in acquiring the veteran forward.

While the club has not officially confirmed the discussions, negotiations are reportedly underway as the 34-year-old Salah considers his options for the upcoming season. Initial reports suggesting a finalized two-year contract or specific commercial agreements related to jersey sales have been dismissed as inaccurate by sources close to the matter. If a deal materializes, Trabzonspor's financial commitment, encompassing base salary and performance bonuses, is estimated to be between 16 million and 17 million euros annually.

To manage the significant financial implications, Trabzonspor's management is actively exploring corporate sponsorship opportunities to help cover a portion of the proposed package. Salah became one of the summer's most prominent free agents after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Liverpool a season early. Beşiktaş club director Önder Özen confirmed that negotiations were "shelved" due to an impasse over financial demands. He stated that Beşiktaş would not compromise its financial integrity for a star signing and would not offer improved terms. With Beşiktaş out of the running, Trabzonspor faces competition from other international clubs, including those in Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer, but remains hopeful that a competitive offer, supported by Turkish sponsors and the allure of leading a Süper Lig campaign, will persuade Salah to join.
