Traffic accident on the Puyo-Baños highway leaves one dead

A tragic traffic accident on the Puyo-Baños highway in Ecuador claimed one life and left four people injured early Saturday morning. The collision occurred around 1:35 AM in the Santa Rosa area of Mera canton, Pastaza province.

According to the Integrated Security Service ECU 911, two light vehicles, one white and one black, collided head-on with significant force. Both cars sustained severe frontal damage, with one ending up on the side of the road and the other obstructing the highway.

Emergency services, including the National Police, Ministry of Public Health, and Firefighters, responded to the scene. Paramedics provided initial aid to the four injured individuals, who were then transported to local medical facilities for specialized treatment. Sadly, one person was confirmed dead at the scene, and their body was handed over to forensic units.

The highway was temporarily closed to traffic during the rescue and investigation efforts. After the scene was cleared and the wreckage removed, the National Police reopened the road. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash, with speed, driver error, or adverse weather conditions being considered as potential factors. Traffic authorities urge drivers to exercise extreme caution, adhere to speed limits, and pay attention to road signs.
