Traffic Relief: Key Section of Dellepiane Highway Opens in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires has opened a crucial section of the Dellepiane highway, marking a significant advancement in the project to transform the busy southern access route into the city's first "highway park." The newly opened northbound North Collector road connects Timoteo Gordillo street with General Paz Avenue, improving circulation for an estimated 200,000 daily motorists and thousands of local residents.

City authorities highlighted the project's scale, with Buenos Aires Mayor Jorge Macri calling it the "most important active public works project in the entire country." He emphasized the dual goal of enhancing connectivity while creating more green space. The transformation aims to substantially improve access for those entering Buenos Aires from the south and benefit local communities.

This phase of the project includes the construction of four new bridges. Two bridges span the Belgrano Sur railway lines, one is a pedestrian bridge over Piedrabuena Avenue, and another crosses Rio Negro street. These structures are designed to ensure the continuous flow of the collector roads, which were historically interrupted by infrastructure limitations.

The comprehensive plan involves creating safer access and exit points, renovating side barriers, and installing new impact absorbers to bolster road safety. A significant future addition will be an exclusive bus corridor running through the highway's center, connecting Piedrabuena Avenue with the 25 de Mayo Metrobús corridor. This bus lane will be double-directional and include six central stops.

Further enhancements include new elevated walkways for safe access to bus stops, complete with lighting and signage. Following the completion of the roadworks, the government plans to develop a four-kilometer linear park along the highway. This park will feature sports facilities, a running track, recreational areas, exercise stations, pedestrian paths, and bike lanes, creating a substantial new green lung for the city.
