Tragedy on Route 9: Woman, baby, and father-in-law die after car plunges into arroyo

A tragic accident on Route 9 near Baradero, Argentina, claimed the lives of a woman, her infant son, and her father-in-law when their car veered off the road and plunged into the Cañada Honda arroyo. The victims, identified as Melina Victoria Acevedo, 33, her one-year-old son Rafael Nicolás Giménez, and 65-year-old Rodolfo Giménez, drowned after the red Volkswagen Senda became submerged in the arroyo. The sole survivor, 33-year-old driver Guillermo Nicolás Giménez, managed to exit the vehicle before it sank and was treated for hypothermia at a local medical center. Emergency services, including volunteer firefighters from Baradero, police, and medical personnel, responded to the scene. Rescue operations were hampered by poor lighting and difficult terrain in the area where the car fell from a height of over two meters. Firefighters described the challenging conditions of working in the cold water. Investigators are examining the cause of the crash, with possibilities including loss of vehicle control, evasive maneuvers, or a mechanical failure. The case is being handled by the Functional Instruction Unit No. 8 of Baradero. The incident has deeply impacted the family's hometown of Victoria, in the Entre Ríos province, with relatives and friends expressing their grief on social media.
