Tragic Accident in Ethiopia: Bus Plunges Off Cliff, Killing at Least 31

A tragic bus accident in Ethiopia's northern Amhara region has claimed the lives of at least 31 people, with another 33 sustaining injuries. The bus was en route from Dessie to the capital, Addis Ababa, when it plunged off a cliff in an area known for its challenging terrain.

According to Commander Getachew Muhiye, the vehicle fell from a cliff, resulting in 31 fatalities, including the driver. The injured are receiving medical treatment in hospitals in Dessie and Kombolcha. Images shared online depict a sharp S-shaped curve on the road where the accident is believed to have occurred, alongside the wreckage of the bus.

In a separate incident last year, at least 71 people died when a truck fell into a river in the southern Sidama region. Such events highlight the urgent need for improved road safety measures and vehicle regulation across Ethiopia.
