Transfer: Without a future in Elversberg, Mahmoud moves to Austria

German club SV Elversberg has terminated the contract of striker Mohammad Mahmoud by mutual agreement, ending his tenure with the Bundesliga newcomers. The 21-year-old forward is set to join Austrian second-division side Austria Salzburg.

Mahmoud originally joined SV Elversberg two years ago from VfL Bochum's U19 team. He had a contract with Elversberg that was set to run until the summer of 2027. However, after making only four brief appearances in the first half of the 2024/2025 season, he was loaned out to FC Zürich in Switzerland.

Upon his return to Elversberg last summer, Mahmoud was unable to secure a regular place in the first team and did not feature in any matches for them. SV Elversberg's Sporting Director, Christian Weber, expressed that the club's time with the player did not meet expectations. "Unfortunately, our time together was not as successful as we had hoped," Weber stated. "Nevertheless, we wish Mo all the best for his future and a successful time in Austria."
