Transfers: Super Eagles’ Amas Obasogie returns to Bendel Insurance

Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has returned to Bendel Insurance, expressing a renewed hunger to contribute to the club's future successes. After a two-season stint playing overseas, Obasogie is back with the 2023 President’s Federation Cup champions, ready to compete in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Obasogie has signed a one-year deal with the Benin-based club for the upcoming 2026/27 NPFL season. He originally joined Bendel Insurance in 2019, establishing himself as a standout goalkeeper before his departure. His overseas journey included playing for Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema and Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars.

Reflecting on his return, Obasogie shared his enthusiasm on Instagram: "Back to where part of my journey began. Sometimes, life takes you away so you can grow, learn, and become stronger. Today, I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to my former team, not just as a player, but with more experience, hunger, and determination. During his previous tenure, Obasogie was instrumental in Bendel Insurance's success, including their remarkable 21-game unbeaten league run in 2023 and their historic President Federation Cup triumph. He recorded eight clean sheets in the 2023 regular season and his penalty-saving ability was crucial in their 1-0 final victory over Enugu Rangers. He further enhanced his reputation in the 2023/24 season, setting a league record with 18 clean sheets before his move abroad. His return bolsters Bendel Insurance with a goalkeeper possessing significant NPFL experience and a history of performing under pressure.

Obasogie's performances have not gone unnoticed by the national team. Despite not yet debuting for the senior Super Eagles, he has received multiple call-ups since November 2023 and was part of Nigeria's squad that secured third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. His return to the NPFL is seen as another opportunity to solidify his position and make a strong case for a long-awaited senior national team debut.
