TRCN warns teachers against fake certification, licensing agents

Nigeria’s Teachers Registration Council has warned teachers and school owners not to pay people claiming to process TRCN registration, certification or licences through unofficial channels.

Registrar and Chief Executive Ronke Soyombo said fraudsters were using the council’s name, logo and identity to target members of the public. She said TRCN had authorised no agent, consultant, third party or staff member to collect money or handle its services outside approved procedures.

She urged the public to treat social media posts, WhatsApp messages, emails and websites offering TRCN registration, the Professional Qualifying Examination, certification or other services with caution.

Soyombo also warned against paying into personal bank accounts. People who have paid suspected fraudsters or received suspicious requests were advised to report them to security agencies and notify TRCN through its official channels. Soyombo said the council’s legal advisers and law enforcement agencies were investigating and would prosecute people found impersonating TRCN or defrauding the public. “Such fraudulent acts constitute criminal offences and will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she said.
