Tree Falls on Car, Kills Parents of Teen Celebrating 15th Birthday in Argentina

A family's birthday celebration turned into a tragedy in San Carlos, Mendoza, Argentina, after a massive tree toppled onto a car, killing both parents. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on National Route 143 as the family was returning home from San Rafael.

The parents had gone to pick up their daughter, who was celebrating her 15th birthday, from a sports competition. While a larger party was planned for the following weekend, they intended to have a private family celebration. Tragically, they never made it home.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and civil defense personnel, arrived at the scene to find the tree had crushed the front of the BAIC SUV. The driver, identified as Fabio, and his wife, Fabiana, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their daughter sustained head injuries and possible fractures and was taken to the hospital. Another female passenger was also rescued and transported to a different hospital.

Due to the strong "zonda" winds prevalent in the region, authorities temporarily closed sections of National Routes 143 and 40 as a safety precaution. Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. The local community and the daughter's futsal club expressed their grief and offered support to the injured teenager.
