Treviglio: Socialist Party opens door to candidate Molteni for 2027 elections

The provincial leadership of the Italian Socialist Party (Psi) in Bergamo has opened dialogue with Erik Molteni, the center-left candidate for the 2027 Treviglio municipal elections, signaling potential grounds for an agreement.

Provincial secretary Francesco De Lucia and local government representative Celestino Bianchi met with Molteni, who is backed by a coalition including the Democratic Party, the Five Star Movement, and other centrist parties. De Lucia described the meeting as "frank and open," stating that the Psi presented its political priorities and found common ground with Molteni for a "solid programmatic agreement" and an alliance with a significant reformist presence.

The Psi aims to return socialist reformist representatives to Treviglio's government, a presence they feel has been absent for too long. Further discussions are planned for September. However, the party is not unified on this approach. A minority faction within the Psi prefers to explore alliances with other centrist forces to emphasize the party's distinct identity.

In the 2021 municipal elections, the Psi ran its own list, securing 0.45% of the vote, and supported candidate Augusto Corsi alongside a civic list. The current discussions reflect a strategic decision for the Psi to potentially re-enter the municipal administration after a significant absence.
