Trial date set for man accused of murdering 14-year-old girl

A trial date has been scheduled for April 19 next year for Christopher Mark Jordan, who stands accused of murdering 14-year-old Shyanne-Lee Tatnell. The trial is expected to last five weeks.

Jordan, from Scottsdale, appeared in the Supreme Court in Launceston via video link from Risdon Prison. He has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. The case stems from the disappearance of Tatnell, a teenager from Burnie, who went missing almost four years ago while staying at a youth hostel in Launceston.

Following an extensive search, her remains were discovered nearly three months after she disappeared. The discovery was made off a dirt track at Nabowla, located northeast of Launceston. Jordan was arrested the day after the remains were found and subsequently charged with murder. He entered his not guilty plea in 2024.

Justice Michael Brett will preside over the trial. A further directions hearing is scheduled for November 27, 2026, to address any pre-trial issues.
