Trial of 51-year-old woman accused of assaulting, threatening, and sexually abusing partner begins in Vienna

A Vienna court is hearing the case of a 51-year-old self-employed woman accused of severe abuse against her former partner. The relationship, which lasted eleven months, allegedly saw the woman inflict physical harm, threats, and sexual coercion on her 40-year-old ex-boyfriend.

The prosecution has charged the woman with negligent grievous bodily harm, assault, dangerous threats, and violation of sexual self-determination. However, the accused vehemently denies these allegations. She claims the situation was the reverse, portraying herself as the victim.

This unusual domestic violence case is being presided over by Judge Petra Poschalko. The court's proceedings highlight the grim reality of violent relationships, which unfortunately, often escalate to severe injury or even homicide, a frequent occurrence at the Vienna criminal court.
