Tropical Storm Dolly remnants to bring heavy rains to Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is bracing for increased rainfall and wind gusts as the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly approach. Gloria Ceballos, director of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology, announced that the effects of the storm, now downgraded to an active tropical wave, are expected to begin Sunday afternoon and could persist until Tuesday.

Despite losing its tropical storm characteristics due to unfavorable atmospheric conditions, Dolly's remnants are still projected to cause significant rainfall across the Lesser Antilles. Ceballos warned that some areas of the Dominican Republic could receive between two and three inches of rain. The system is moving rapidly westward at approximately 41 kilometers per hour, with winds up to 65 kilometers per hour, though these are expected to gradually decrease.

Ceballos explained that Dolly struggled against dry air and dust, along with wind shear, which prevented it from maintaining its organization as a tropical cyclone. However, she emphasized that the loss of category does not diminish its potential impact on weather conditions in the Caribbean. The Dominican Institute of Meteorology will continue to monitor the wave due to the rainfall it may generate.
