Trot diva Han Hye-jin says her second husband died first: “I’m more comfortable alone now”

Singer Han Hye-jin said she feels more comfortable alone after the death of her second husband, whom she described as someone who may have been her ideal partner.

Appearing on MBN’s “Altoran,” Han reflected on two marriages, widowhood and her career as she marked 40 years since her debut. She said her second marriage had not unfolded as she expected because her husband “went to heaven before me.” Asked about the possibility of marrying again, she said he had treated her exceptionally well and that they had been deeply compatible.

Han said she might compare any new partner with her late husband without meaning to. She also worried that this would be unfair to someone new and questioned whether she could give that person her whole heart. “Right now, I’m more comfortable being alone,” she said, adding that she was content with her life as she entered its later phase.

The program also showed Han’s three-story home in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province. She said she had recently become interested in cooking and was continuing to study English, hoping to become “a stylish grandmother who reads English newspapers.”

Han recalled the height of her career, when she sometimes handled eight or nine schedules in one day. She said she once received 70 million won at once and spread the money across her bed before lying down on it. She remembered buying her father a car as one of her happiest moments. During nearly a decade without recognition, her father supported her final attempt to remain a singer, even offering to sell his orchard to cover album production costs. Han debuted as a television talent in 1985 before moving into music and recording hits including “Brown Memories.”
