Truck narrowly misses collision with train as crossing gate remains open in Kediri

A near-tragedy unfolded at the Simpang Mengkreng railway crossing in Purwoasri District, Kediri Regency, East Java, when a truck narrowly avoided being hit by the KA Brantas train. The incident occurred because the railway crossing gate was allegedly left open, with the attendant reportedly asleep at the time the train was approaching.

The lack of a closed gate created a dangerous situation, allowing the truck to proceed onto the tracks as the train neared. Fortunately, alert local residents present at the scene took immediate action. They initiated efforts to halt the flow of vehicles, effectively preventing the truck from entering the path of the oncoming train and averting a potentially catastrophic collision.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 7 Madiun confirmed the incident. In response to the lapse in safety procedures, the railway company stated that the involved attendant has undergone disciplinary action and "coaching" in accordance with applicable regulations. This measure aims to reinforce safety protocols and prevent future occurrences of negligence at railway crossings.
