Truck plummets down embankment on Taiwan freeway after suspected blowout

A large truck experienced a sudden loss of control and plunged down an embankment on National Freeway 1 in the Xinying section on June 15th. The incident occurred around 4:50 PM when the truck, driven by a 46-year-old man surnamed Gao, was traveling northbound. A suspected blowout of the front right tire caused the vehicle to veer off course, crash through the outer guardrail, and tumble down the slope.

The truck came to a rest on the road below, its front bumper severely damaged, with parts of the broken guardrail lodged in the vehicle's front. The windshield was also shattered. Emergency services, including four fire trucks, three ambulances, and 14 personnel, responded to the scene. Fortunately, the accident resulted in no injuries.

National Freeway Police arrived to manage the situation. The driver tested negative for alcohol. The accident was cleared, and traffic resumed by 5:55 PM. Police are investigating the exact cause of the crash. They urged drivers to perform regular vehicle maintenance and conduct thorough checks of critical components like oil, water, brakes, tires, and lights before driving to prevent similar incidents and ensure safety for all road users.
