Truck Smashes Through Guardrail on A9 Near Eisenberg, Highway Closed

A serious accident involving a semi-trailer truck led to the complete closure of the A9 highway in both directions near Eisenberg early on June 29, 2026. The incident occurred between the Droyßig and Eisenberg junctions in the direction of Nuremberg.

According to police reports, the 35-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle on the rain-slicked road. Initial findings suggest that driving too fast for the conditions was the primary cause. The truck veered off the road, breaching the central median barrier and crashing into the opposite lane. Debris from the impact also damaged a car traveling in the oncoming direction.

The collision ruptured the truck's diesel tank, resulting in a significant spill of fuel onto the highway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the accident, based on initial assessments. However, the financial toll is substantial, with estimated damages reaching approximately 150,000 euros.

Emergency services are currently engaged in recovery and cleanup operations, which are expected to cause prolonged disruptions. The highway remains fully closed in both directions, and kilometers-long traffic jams have already formed. Authorities anticipate that the closure will continue for several more hours.
