Trump and Infantino booed by crowd at World Cup final

U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino faced audible boos from sections of the crowd as they entered the field to present the World Cup trophy to the victorious Spanish team. The jeers were noticeable despite the stadium's music and noise.

Following the trophy presentation, Trump remained on stage to join the Spanish national team for their winner's photograph. He was seen interacting with Spanish players before staying on the podium amidst the confetti and celebrations. This is not the first time Trump has caused confusion during a trophy ceremony; a similar incident occurred at the Club World Cup the previous summer.

This World Cup final marked Trump's first stadium visit of the tournament. He expressed a positive outlook on the event, telling Infantino, "We have to repeat this, and as long as I'm here." Trump had previously announced the U.S.'s intention to bid for another World Cup, stating that Mexico and Canada would be excluded this time.

The tournament was marked by several political controversies. These included issues with a Somali referee's entry and the treatment of the Iranian team. Trump himself was involved in a significant scandal when he allegedly pressured Infantino to review the suspension of U.S. footballer Folarin Balogun after a red card, which reportedly led to the player being granted permission to play.
