Trump announces plan to create U.S. Space Academy

Trump signed an executive order establishing the academy, citing the rapid growth of the U.S. Space Force and the commercial space industry, as well as ambitions for lunar and beyond exploration. Furthermore, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to lunar exploration, stating that American astronauts will return to the moon's surface before the end of his term in January 2028. He added that these astronauts would plant the flag at the site of the first permanent U.S. settlement on the moon. The president also highlighted NASA's development of a nuclear-powered interplanetary spacecraft, described as a world first, intended for a Mars exploration mission in 2028. He suggested this spacecraft could be the first in a larger fleet of American vessels designed to make space travel more routine.
