Trump-backed candidates win key Republican primaries in Wisconsin

Voters in several U.S. states, including Wisconsin, Connecticut, Minnesota, and Vermont, participated in primary elections on Tuesday, August 11th. The results saw victories for three candidates who received endorsements from former President Donald Trump.

In Wisconsin, Tom Tiffany, a candidate for governor who received Trump's "complete and total support" in January, won the Republican nomination. He defeated Andy Manske and will now face Democrat David Crowley in the general election. Tiffany, who has served as a state representative and in Congress, aims to lower costs, improve education, and protect the state's natural resource industries. Crowley, the executive of Milwaukee County, has already linked Tiffany to Trump's agenda, stating his own loyalty is to Wisconsin, not "MAGA."

Former Republican Governor Scott Walker advised Tiffany to focus his message on the gubernatorial race rather than solely on Trump, suggesting he needs to be "concise and maintain the same message every time the topic arises." Walker believes Tiffany should emphasize what is truly at stake: the governorship for the next four years.

Additionally, Michael Alfonso secured the Republican nomination for Wisconsin's 7th congressional district, also with Trump's backing. Alfonso, the grandson of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, could become one of the youngest members of Congress if elected in November. His platform includes lowering costs, improving education, and protecting the state's agricultural and fishing communities.
