Trump calls off Iran attack, says deal is close

President Donald Trump announced Saturday night that he had called off a massive U.S. military strike against Iran, claiming the decision came after Iran and other Middle Eastern nations requested a delay to finalize a deal.

Trump outlined conditions for a future deal, demanding the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear program. He asserted that he agreed to cancel the attack "for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL."

Earlier on Saturday, two Israeli sources told The Jerusalem Post that Israel had increased its alert status due to expectations that Trump was nearing a decision to resume military strikes against Iran. Israeli officials reportedly stated they were "on high alert and awaiting the president’s final decision."
