Trump considers renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' in provocative move

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media that he is seriously considering renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America. Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that he is contemplating this change because he anticipates not doing much business with Ontario in the future.

Lake Ontario, a large lake situated between Canada's Ontario province and New York state, is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and serves as a border between the two countries. The proposed renaming is interpreted as a provocative measure, particularly in light of Ontario's position as a leader in opposing U.S. tariffs within Canada.

He asserted that he would never interfere with Canadians speaking French and called such suggestions "stupid." He attributed these rumors to a "weak and incompetent" Prime Minister attempting to regain political support from Quebec residents. Trump expressed his affection for French Canadians.

These comments follow allegations by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who claimed that the U.S. trade negotiation team viewed Canada's French language protection policies as a "nuisance." Canada maintains equal status for both English and French, with specific regulations requiring French language descriptions on products, particularly in Quebec.
