Trump decries 'vandalism' of Reflecting Pool post-renovation

Donald Trump has loudly proclaimed that the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial has been vandalized, just weeks after a $14 million renovation project was completed. The pool has turned green due to algae and is reportedly losing pieces.

"It was never so beautiful as it was a week ago," Trump stated on his social media platform Truth, shortly after the renovation he championed was finished. He added, "Not even when it opened in 1922." Trump declared that the actions of these "vandals" were an affront to Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and vowed they would pay for the damage. He also criticized damage to the surrounding lawn, which bore the inscription "86 47."

The Reflecting Pool has become the latest focus of Trump's attention, following projects like the White House ballroom and his proposed "Arc de Trump." Despite facing criticism and potential sanctions from Democrats over these projects, Trump appears undeterred. Trump reported that "several people have been arrested for acts of vandalism at the Reflecting Poll," describing the charges as serious, including damage to public property. Among those arrested is former Olympic athlete David Hearn. Hearn stated he was arrested for stopping to look at the algae and approaching the water, denying any vandalism. With the July 4th Independence Day celebrations approaching, the issues at the Reflecting Pool present a challenge for Trump, who has planned a large rally in the capital.
