Trump endorses Biggs for Arizona governor, citing border security and economy

Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Andy Biggs in the Republican primary for Arizona governor, calling the congressman a "very successful civic leader."

Trump announced his endorsement on July 10, highlighting Biggs as a "distinguished congressman" who plans to boost Arizona's economy and halt undocumented immigration. "It is a great honor for me to endorse the highly respected Congressman Andy Biggs, a defender of America’s interests, who is running to be the next governor of the wonderful state of Arizona," Trump stated. He added that Biggs would work to lower taxes and regulations, promote American-made products, unleash American energy, secure the border, stop undocumented immigrants, and protect the Second Amendment.

Trump urged his followers that Biggs had many victories in the Grand Canyon State and would not let them down. Despite the endorsement for the July 21 election, Trump and Biggs have had past disputes. In January 2023, Biggs refused to support Kevin McCarthy for House speaker, a move Trump desired. At that time, Trump warned Biggs he would not back his gubernatorial bid if he didn't support McCarthy. Biggs and other conservatives eventually partially conceded, voting for McCarthy, but nine months later, Biggs was among those who voted to remove him from his post.

If elected governor on November 3, Biggs has outlined a package of "ethical proposals" and an "America First" agenda.
