Trump envoy Barrack faces criticism over Syria stance and Golan comments - analysis

A dispute has intensified between Israel, US President Donald Trump's special envoy to Syria Tom Barrack, and some Trump allies over Barrack's recent comments regarding the Golan Heights and Turkey's involvement in Syria. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar criticized Barrack's statements as "full of inaccuracies" and contradictory to President Trump's own policy on the Golan Heights.

Conservative activist Laura Loomer, who has close ties to Trump, also joined the criticism. Loomer called for Barrack's resignation, citing a lack of understanding of US foreign policy and pointing to Trump's 2019 proclamation on the Golan Heights. She previously criticized Barrack for condemning an Israeli strike on a Syrian base, calling him "one of the worst choices of the Trump administration."

Adding to the controversy, Loomer claimed Turkey is attempting to deploy Russian air defense systems in Syria. A source confirmed to The Jerusalem Post that Turkey is indeed seeking to deploy radar and potentially air defense systems. Barrack, however, presented a different view, describing the Syrian government as non-aggressive and stating Ankara is not interested in a military confrontation with Israel. He also described the Israeli strike as an "unnecessary escalation."
