Trump envoy tells Putin his story will be ‘at the top’ when talks end

Steve Witkoff told Vladimir Putin that the Russian leader’s story would be “right at the top” when the American envoys returned home. Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Putin in Moscow on Saturday to discuss a plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

“President Putin, thank you very much for receiving us,” Witkoff said. He told the Russian leader that he, Kushner and two other colleagues had been discussing the “incredible stories and memories” they would take away from the trip, adding that Putin’s would be at the top of them all.

Putin also asked the visitors to convey his “best wishes and words of gratitude” to U.S. President Donald Trump. Local media reported that the American delegation left the Kremlin after more than three hours of talks. The envoys were due to travel to Kyiv for their first visit there, while the results of the Moscow consultations remained unknown.

Russia and Ukraine had committed not to attack each other’s capitals for three days during the negotiations. Washington was seeking to revive dialogue over the conflict, while Trump described the initiative as a “proposal to end the war.”
