Trump introduces import tariffs of up to 100 percent on drones

President Donald Trump is set to implement import tariffs ranging from 10% to 100% on foreign drones and their components, according to a White House announcement. This directive aims to bolster the American drone industry and its supply chain, reflecting a broader strategy to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities. The tariffs will be applied differentially. Drones weighing over 25 kilograms will face the highest import duty of 100%, while smaller drones will be subject to a 25% tariff. The implementation timeline varies, with the 100% tariff taking effect within 21 days and certain drone components facing a 180-day delay before the 25% tariff applies. While the tariffs are designed to favor domestic production, the U.S. administration has established more favorable rates for key international partners. Drones originating from the European Union, Japan, Liechtenstein, South Korea, Switzerland, and Taiwan will be subject to a 15% import tariff. Products from the United Kingdom will receive a slightly lower rate of 10%.
