President Donald Trump honored a teenage lifeguard at the White House on Monday for his bravery in rescuing a 10-year-old boy from powerful ocean waves in California last month. Trump had previously lauded lifeguard Ryder Williams on social media, announcing his intention to invite the young hero to Washington.

Dramatic video footage of the rescue circulated widely online, showing Williams struggling to keep Nathaniel Rai afloat as waves crashed over them. The pair briefly disappeared from view before re-emerging as the water receded. A second lifeguard assisted in bringing both to shore at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz.

Trump, speaking in the Oval Office alongside Rai and Williams, praised the lifeguard's actions. "He's a real hero. I don't know if I'd do it," Trump remarked, adding, "I wouldn't probably. You're lucky I wasn't on the service that day."

During the event, Trump also briefly addressed other topics, including Flock Safety cameras, which are used by law enforcement but have drawn criticism from civil rights advocates over privacy concerns. He stated the administration is studying the cameras' pros and cons and expects to release its views soon. Additionally, Trump confirmed that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had responded to his request for a conversation, though he offered no further details.
