Trump officials label leftism 'enemies of civilization' at international event

Top officials from the Trump administration convened a gathering of 66 nations, framing it as a response to the "resurgence of political violence." However, the conference, spearheaded by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and attended by advisors like Stephen Miller and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, focused solely on what they termed "leftist violence."

He further characterized them as an "encroaching darkness" and the "enemies of civilization," vowing to "dismantle these networks brick by brick."

The conference notably omitted any discussion of rightwing attacks, such as the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot. Rubio suggested that the threat of terrorism, addressed after the 2001 attacks, had been "severely diminished," and the administration was now shifting its focus to what he maintained was an overlooked problem: leftist violence.
