Trump posts map showing the US flag covering Mexico, the Caribbean and Canada

Donald Trump shared an unexplained map on Truth Social in which the red and white stripes of the US flag stretch across Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, Greenland and Iceland.

The post came hours after Trump suggested that the US state of New Mexico should be renamed “New America,” echoing his push to call the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America.” The map’s origin was not clear, and Trump offered no comment when he posted it.

Trump frequently shares memes and images produced by supporters or artificial intelligence on Truth Social. During his second term, he has also made clear his ambitions involving territories such as Greenland and Canada, while not ruling out military intervention to take Cuba, the article says.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum did not explicitly mention the map in a post on X. But she used the message to stress that Mexican territory “is not and will not be a colony or protectorate of any foreign country.”

The map appeared days after Trump signed an executive order changing the name of Lake Ontario, which borders the United States and Canada, to “Lake America.”
