Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited discussions about a potential summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by posting several photos of the two together on his Truth Social account. The images, appearing to be from their 2018 Singapore summit and 2019 Panmunjom meeting, were shared as Trump indicated he expects to meet Kim within the year.

Trump's renewed engagement comes amid reports that he has encouraged his staff to pursue a meeting with Kim this fall. A potential meeting during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China in November has been suggested. This is not the first time Trump has pursued such a meeting; he reportedly attempted to arrange a summit during the APEC meeting in Gyeongju last October, though scheduling conflicts prevented it.

While Trump stated he is "on good terms" with Kim and that this is a positive development, North Korea's response has been cautious. Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong Un's sister, stated that she was unaware of any dialogue proposals from Trump, despite acknowledging the "excellent" relationship between the two leaders. This has led to speculation that North Korea may be keeping the possibility of a summit open.
