The July Fourth celebration in Washington, D.C., proceeded with a 40-minute pyrotechnic show, notably larger than in past years, despite intermittent weather challenges.

Organizers planned to launch approximately 850,000 firework shells from ten different locations, including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and Potomac River barges. The estimated cost for the elaborate display was $850,000. The event also featured a flyover by the newly renovated Air Force One above the National Mall.
