Trump's power no longer absolute: one vote changed everything

Donald Trump has suffered his most significant political defeat since the conflict with Iran began, not from Tehran, but from Washington. The U.S. House of Representatives adopted a resolution demanding an end to American military engagement against Iran, a move analysts are calling the most serious political blow to the president.

The resolution passed with a slim 215-208 vote. Notably, four Republican representatives, Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett, and Warren Davidson, supported the measure. This bipartisan support underscores growing divisions within the Republican party regarding the continuation of the conflict.

This development comes at a critical juncture. Sensitive negotiations are underway with Tehran, a fragile ceasefire holds in Lebanon, and efforts are being made to de-escalate a conflict threatening the entire Middle East. The Iranian side is pushing for an end to the war with the United States and a signed agreement that would include Lebanon.

However, the path to peace is complicated by regional demands. Benjamin Netanyahu insists on the capitulation of Hezbollah and its withdrawal to Beirut. Conversely, Hezbollah refuses a permanent ceasefire until Israel withdraws from all occupied Lebanese territory. Trump now faces serious resistance from within his own political ranks.
