Trump Says Europe Should Repay the United States for Military Aid Sent to Ukraine

Donald Trump says he will ask European countries to reimburse the United States for military aid and ammunition previously sent to Ukraine during its war with Russia.

In a social media post, Trump criticized reports that the war in Iran had sharply reduced U.S. ammunition stocks. He said the United States was increasing production and building reserves, adding that supplies were being held for domestic use rather than sold abroad for the time being.

The United States and NATO established the Prioritised List of Ukraine’s Requirements initiative last year, under which European countries pay for the delivery of U.S. weapons to Ukraine. Reuters reported last month that the U.S. military had used a large share of its stocks of highly precise long-range missiles during the war in Iran, prompting concern about readiness for future conflicts.
