Trump says he and Israel have called off Iran attack after being assured deal is imminent

President Donald Trump declared late Saturday that a major military strike on Iran had been called off, citing assurances from Tehran and other Middle East nations that a deal framework was imminent. This alleged agreement, according to Trump, would fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resolve the Iran nuclear threat. Israel was also reportedly on board with the decision, though Jerusalem had not yet issued a public statement.

Trump announced the decision on Truth Social, stating, "The USA is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of military terror, strength and Power not seen since World War II." He added that Iran and other countries requested a hold on the attack due to the nearing deal parameters. "This would include the Immediate, complete, and total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat," Trump wrote.

Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern countries to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to.

He explained his decision to cancel the attack was for the "future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran," contingent on finalizing the deal. "The country of Israel joins me in this commitment. Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE," he concluded. This marks a recurring pattern where Trump has threatened significant action against Iran's energy sites, only to retract the threats based on claims of imminent diplomatic breakthroughs.

He discussed the potential consequences of "destabilizing actions" by the U.S. and the risk of heightened regional insecurity. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly spoke with Trump, expressing concern and seeking clarity on U.S. plans regarding Iran.
