Trump Says He Is Glad Prince Harry and Meghan Left the U.S.: “I’m Not Much of a Fan”

Donald Trump said he was “happy” that Prince Harry and his family had left the United States and returned to Britain, adding that he was “not much of a fan” of the couple.

Speaking at the White House, the U.S. president criticized Harry and Meghan’s treatment of the royal family. “I think they treated the royal family with tremendous disrespect. I didn’t like it,” Trump said. He referred to his good relationships with the late Queen Elizabeth and her successor, King Charles.

Trump directed particular criticism at Meghan. “I didn’t like her behavior. I think she’s shown tremendous disrespect,” he said. “If I were in the royal family, I wouldn’t have taken them back.”

Harry married Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle in 2018. The couple stepped away from official royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, where they settled in Montecito near Santa Barbara. They have since criticized the royal family and the monarchy in television interviews, a Netflix documentary series and Harry’s memoir, “Spare.”

Relations with Harry’s father, Charles, and his brother, Prince William, deteriorated sharply. Harry also objected to changes to his security arrangements, saying they prevented him from bringing his children to Britain. The relationship with Charles appeared to improve briefly in September, when father and son met for the first time in 20 months. Charles was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and later said he had responded “extremely well” to treatment. Harry and Meghan visited Britain with their children the previous month, allowing Charles to see his grandchildren for the first time since 2022.
