Trump says he will nominate Lance Schroyer as next ICE director

Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will nominate Lance Schroyer to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Schroyer, who Trump described as a "PATRIOT with real operational experience," brings over 29 years of law enforcement background in Oklahoma, including service as a State Trooper and a United States Marine.

Trump highlighted Schroyer's "DECADES of experience locking up the worst of the worst" and his "firsthand experience getting Illegal Aliens OFF our streets." He also noted his administration's high daily arrest rate by ICE and CBP.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated that Schroyer "will play a vital role in helping deliver on the President’s mandate from the American people to target, arrest, and deport illegal aliens." Mullin added that Schroyer has "ran large scale operations and worked alongside state and federal partners to remove illegal aliens from Oklahoma under the 287g program."

Both Trump and Mullin urged the Senate to confirm Schroyer swiftly, noting that the agency has lacked a Senate-confirmed director since early 2017. The nomination comes as Trump has made cracking down on immigration a central focus of his administration, a policy that rights groups argue infringes on civil liberties and creates an unsafe environment for ethnic minorities.
