Trump Says Latest Strikes on Iran Were Justified

Donald Trump has defended the latest U.S. attack on Iran as justified and warned Tehran that any retaliation could bring heavier strikes.

In a message on Truth Social, the U.S. president said American forces had attacked Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz. He described the action as a response to what he called Iran’s failed attempt to place naval mines in the strait and to the launch of eight missiles at a U.S. military base in Jordan.

The U.S. military said it had struck targets in Iran as hostilities resumed after a month without military action. U.S. Central Command said the strikes followed recent attempted attacks by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and on American troops stationed in the region.

The military had said on Sunday that it hit rocket launchers on Larak Island in the strait. Iran then launched missiles at U.S. sites in Jordan, which were intercepted. The United Arab Emirates also said it had stopped an Iranian drone over its waters.
