Trump Says Reflecting Pool Drained for Repairs After Vandalism Allegations

President Donald Trump announced Monday that the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. has been drained for repairs. Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that the pool was emptied to fix damage caused by alleged vandals approximately two weeks prior.

The renovation of the Reflecting Pool, described as a pet project of Trump's, has encountered several setbacks since its completion. These issues include persistent algae growth and peeling paint, which the president has repeatedly blamed on vandalism, though he has not provided specific evidence.

We drained the beautiful 'Reflecting Pool' today in order to fix the scars and damage that was done by the Vandals two weeks ago.

Trump indicated that the Parks Department needed to empty the pool to address problems with its watertight basin. He assured that the pool would be refilled and returned to service shortly. The project's estimated cost for painting and sealing is at least $14 million.

Among those accused of vandalizing the Reflecting Pool is David Hearn, a former Olympic slalom canoeist who has pleaded not guilty to vandalism charges. The draining of the pool occurred after the July Fourth holiday, according to Trump's statement.
