White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is stepping down from her post at the end of August, President Donald Trump announced via social media. Trump described Leavitt, who became the youngest person to ever hold the position last year, as one of his "most trusted aides."

Trump stated that Leavitt's decision to leave is to spend more time with her young children and family, a choice he said he "totally understands and respects." He added that Leavitt will continue to serve as one of his "top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party."

Leavitt, 28, took on the role of White House Press Secretary about a year and a half ago. She recently returned from maternity leave after welcoming her second child, a baby girl, in May. She also has a two-year-old son. Leavitt acknowledged the challenges of balancing her demanding White House role with motherhood.
