Trump slams Iran drone attack as 'foolish' ceasefire violation

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday slammed Iran for a drone attack in the Strait of Hormuz, labeling it a "foolish" violation of the Middle East war's ceasefire.

"Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement," Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. He noted that one drone "solidly hit the upper deck of a large and very expensive Cargo Carrying Ship," while three others were shot down. This incident followed an attack on a vessel the previous day.

The British maritime security agency UKMTO reported on Thursday that a cargo ship in the strait sustained damage to its bridge after being struck by an unknown projectile. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.

The incident occurred approximately 7.5 nautical miles off the coast of Oman. Following the attack, the UN's International Maritime Organization announced the suspension of efforts to evacuate around 600 ships and 11,000 sailors who have been trapped in the Gulf since the war began on February 28.

A ceasefire had taken effect on April 8, but sporadic violence continues in the Gulf region. This includes attacks on ships attributed to Tehran's forces and retaliatory U.S. strikes on Iran.
