Trump Slams Iran's Attack on Hormuz Strait Ships as 'Stupid Violation' of Agreement

U.S. President Donald Trump again targeted Iran with criticism, calling the attack on ships in the Strait of Hormuz a "stupid violation" of an agreement. Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social that the Islamic Republic of Iran launched four suicide drones at vessels transiting the strait.

One drone struck the upper deck of a large, expensive cargo ship, causing damage but allowing it to continue sailing. U.S. forces intercepted the other three drones. Trump stated, "Clearly, this is a stupid violation of our ceasefire agreement."

The cargo ship, identified as Evergreen Marine's "EVER LOVELY," sustained damage to its eaves and bridge windows during the drone attack as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz. The company confirmed that the crew, vessel, and cargo were safe, and the ship had safely departed the strait. This event is the first reported ship attack since the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding and the Strait of Hormuz reopened.

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had previously warned that passage through the Strait of Hormuz must follow Iranian-announced routes. However, Trump's post did not specify any potential U.S. response to the incident.
