Trump Thanks Secret Service After White House Shooting

President Donald Trump publicly thanked the Secret Service and law enforcement agencies for their rapid and professional response to a shooting incident that occurred near the White House. The event unfolded late Saturday night, local time, when an armed individual began firing a weapon near the presidential residence.

According to reports, the Secret Service returned fire, striking the suspect who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. A bystander was also injured during the exchange of gunfire. Trump, who was inside the White House at the time, described the incident on his social media platform, Truth Social.

"Thank you to our amazing Secret Service and law enforcement agencies for the quick and professional response here tonight against an armed man near the White House who had a violent past and possibly was obsessed with our nation's most valued building," Trump wrote. He used the incident to reiterate his call for increased security, stating, "Our nation's national security requires it!"

Trump has previously called for significant security upgrades, including the demolition of the White House's east wing to construct a ballroom. He has estimated that a billion dollars would be needed for security around this new ballroom and other Secret Service-related projects. This incident follows a previous attempted attack during the White House Correspondents' Dinner just a month prior.
