Trump unveils new US passport - with picture of himself

President Donald Trump has unveiled a rendering of a new, limited-edition U.S. passport designed to mark the country's 250th anniversary of independence. The passport features a stern-faced likeness of Trump, his signature, and the text of the Declaration of Independence in the background.

"The USA's New Passport, which says, 'Welcome, but be good!'", Trump announced on his Truth Social platform, sharing the mock-up. The image appears to be based on a portrait taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok. The opposite page displays a painting of the Declaration of Independence signing in 1776, alongside the text "United States of America 250".

The State Department, which previously announced a commemorative passport with custom artwork would be available from July 6, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. An official had indicated in April that these Trump-themed passports would be available in-person in Washington while supplies last.

Trump has consistently placed his personal mark on government institutions. His signature is slated to appear on the one-dollar bill, and his name was added to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts until a court ordered its removal. This new passport would make him the first sitting U.S. president to be featured on Americans' travel documents.
