Trump warns Canada’s Bombardier it must build in the US to sell there

Donald Trump has warned Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier that it will not be allowed to sell in the United States unless it begins manufacturing there. The president issued the threat on Truth Social, attacking both the company’s products and its reliance on the American market.

“Enough is enough with selling Bombardier products in the United States!” Trump wrote. He said the products were “not good enough” and told the company that if it wanted access to the US market, it had to manufacture in the country rather than treat the United States as a source of easy money.

Trump said more than 50% of Bombardier’s revenue comes from the United States. He accused the company of living off American buyers, businesses, airports and services, while Canada blocks major US banks and companies across the country. He described the situation as “totally unfair and disloyal.”

If they want our market, they must manufacture here and stop treating the United States like a piggy bank.

The comments came hours before Canada was due to impose tariffs of up to 50% on US products. The duties, worth about 27.6 billion Canadian dollars, or roughly 20 billion US dollars, were scheduled to take effect at 12:01 a.m. local time on Sept. 8. The tariff rates were set at 15%, 25% or 50%, according to Canada’s Finance Ministry announcement in August.
